Industrial O-RingsHamta Polymer manufactures industrial O-rings from ID 1 mm to 2,000 mm in NBR, FKM (Viton), EPDM, silicone and HNBR, in metric (ISO 3601) and inch (AS568) sizes. The right compound depends on your media, temperature and pressure — send us all three for a fast technical recommendation.
An O-ring is the most widely used static seal in industry — and the most common reason it fails early is the wrong compound, not normal wear.
The sealing mechanism is simple but unforgiving: the ring is squeezed inside its groove (typically 15–25% cross-section squeeze), and as system pressure rises the media itself pushes the ring toward the clearance gap. That is why groove dimensions and Shore A hardness matter just as much as the ring's own tolerances.
Hamta Polymer manufactures industrial O-rings across a wide elastomer family, in metric (ISO 3601) and inch (AS568) sizes, so every order can be engineered around real operating conditions instead of guesswork.
Sealing of flanges, valves and pumps where media, temperature and pressure are defined before the compound is chosen.
Static and dynamic seals for cylinders and assemblies, matched to rod speed, pressure and extrusion gaps.
Wherever EPDM or water-approved compounds are specified, with project documentation supplied alongside the parts.
Seals for sub-assemblies that demand dimensional stability plus oil or heat resistance appropriate to the mounting position.
Cause: Excessive gap or insufficient hardness at high pressure
Fix: Review gland clearances; increase hardness or add backup rings where required
Cause: Compound incompatible with the media
Fix: Re-select the elastomer family against the actual fluid and temperature
Cause: Continuous operation above the compound's temperature limit
Fix: Move to a higher-temperature compound and review the thermal design

For engineers and technical buyers — product types, the full material matrix and a precise selection guide.
Sizes per the common metric tables; the right choice for assemblies designed around metric bores, grooves and gland dimensions.
Sizes per the AS568 dash-number series; standard on US-origin equipment and specifications that reference imperial gland dimensions.
The compound is chosen against media, temperature, pressure and motion — no single elastomer suits every application.
For maintenance teams and R&D labs we can discuss organized kits of common sizes, boxed by size table for fast identification.
A compound selection guide based on operating temperature, fluid type and mechanical demand — for industrial orders, match the material to the real service conditions.
| Compound | Operating temperature range | Fluid resistance | Key mechanical property |
|---|---|---|---|
| NBR (Nitrile) | −30 to +100 °C (typical) | Mineral oils and fuels within formulation limits | Cost-effective balance of oil resistance for general-purpose sealing |
| FKM / Viton | −20 to +200 °C (typical) | More aggressive fluids and chemicals within grade limits | Go-to option for demanding thermal and chemical duty |
| EPDM | −40 to +150 °C (typical) | Water, steam and polar media; not suitable for mineral oils | Strong weathering and ozone resistance in compatible environments |
| VMQ (Silicone) | −55 to +200 °C (typical) | Grade-dependent; food/medical contact documentation available on request | Wide thermal flexibility; lower mechanical strength than NBR/FKM in most cases |
| HNBR | −40 to +150 °C (typical) | Oils at higher temperatures than standard NBR within formulation limits | Improved abrasion and heat resistance for severe dynamic service |
The listed ranges are general material selection guides; final service conditions must be reconciled with the fluid type, pressure, part geometry and order specifications.
Before ordering, define: the size (metric table or AS568 dash number), the media, operating temperature, pressure, static or dynamic duty, and target Shore A hardness if known. Sending a sample or a reference size number speeds up technical confirmation considerably.
Choose NBR for mineral oils at moderate temperatures; choose Viton (FKM) when temperatures rise above roughly 100–120 °C or the media is chemically aggressive. The final decision always weighs media, temperature and pressure together.
Metric O-rings follow ISO 3601 size series, while AS568 is the US inch-based dash-number series. Match the size system to your gland design — never mix the two systems without verification, because cross-sections and tolerances differ.
Yes, after reviewing the dimensions and quantity. Non-standard sizes may require a dedicated mold or a special process, and each request is evaluated individually before quotation.
Around 70 Shore A is the industry default for general sealing. Higher pressures or large gaps call for 75–90 Shore A (often with backup rings), while delicate, low-force sealing benefits from softer compounds. The gland and pressure decide.
Generally no — silicone is rarely the first choice for mineral oils. It excels where wide thermal flexibility or documented sanitary compliance matters, provided fluid compatibility is verified first.
Send the size number or a sample, preferred compound if any, the media, temperature, pressure, quantity, and any constraint on hardness or color. That is everything needed for same-week technical confirmation.
